Niagara Falls will turn blue this weekend in support of the Toronto Blue Jays, who have advanced to the World Series for the first time in 32 years. The lights will turn blue at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, just in time for the first pitch of Game 1 and 2 of the series, which will be played in Toronto. This special illumination is a result of a partnership between the Niagara Falls Illumination Board, Niagara Falls Tourism, and Niagara Parks. The board, a century-old Canadian-American collaboration, has been keeping the falls illuminated all year, with a tradition of special lighting for significant events. The falls were first lit up in 1860 to honor the visiting Prince of Wales, and the board was formed in 1925. The Blue Jays' winter tour in January 2023, including players Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Chris Bassitt, was also celebrated with a special illumination of the Falls. This unique tradition not only showcases the city's support for the team but also highlights the collaboration between nations, even in times of trade tensions.
